Hello Scott--There are many approaches to dealing with porn. There are no easy answers or quick fixes. However, the most important is that you find someone that works with you. Seeking help and reaching out is a big step. Next, learn the strategies that work for you. For example, avoid certain places or times when you are vulnerable. Talk with someone when you are craving porn. This requires being vulnerable. No these aren't easy answers, but they help in the recovery process. I wish you the very best.

I cannot control the urge to go online & watch free porn movies! They make it so easy to fall into this addiction!! There are thousands of free movies available,..they have so many catagorys of porn that draw me in. Every day,.I start out thinking I can make it through the day without doing it,..and I always fail,..and I fail even sooner than I expect!

And every time I do try to seek help on the net like this,...at the end of all the info,.there's always some kind of connection to god or religion of some sort! I don't need or want that,..an imaginary "being" dancing around in the clouds is not a solution to my problems!

I would just like to know if there is any truly legitimate help out there for this addiction. Not some site that will eventually direct me into buying books, bibles,..etc., etc.,.church, or some other fantasy program.

Thanks for sharing "Left Empty." It is sad to hear and see your pain. What many in our society fail to see is the disconnect that occurs in relationships because of pornography. Your emotions and feelings are much deeper than what you shared. The hurt, neglect, lack of trust, and overall pain can't be measured but it is real. I wish you the best as you move forward. My regards, Dr. Skinner

My thoughts on this are, Wow, I know the addiction is real, but I cant get my head around this situation, My husband is addicted to porn and alcohol, I have only been married for 4 years, I think I am done with this marriage.......I havent the energy to deal with this, I am not 20 years old anymore, ..I cant say I saw red flags with this ..I know for sure, I would not have married him. my husband is a highly functioning person, great job, shows up for it all.....but whats happening now...he showed up for me in the beginning of the relationship, now its all going down hill....I cant say I am the cause of this he's nearly 50, he has been doing this for years........I personally believe ...he is selfish, and childish....there comes a time in life ...WE ALL NEED TO TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT OURSELVES AND SEE WHAT SORT OF HUMAN BEING WE ARE .....AND WHERE WE FIT IN THE WORLD...sorry I have no time for this sort of behavior..
I have spoke to him about this...of course ....he is transparent and he cant see that...which I think is really sad......he thinks he hides his behaviors well....HE DOESNT .....I DO LAUGH OVER THAT ONE!!!!!!!!!! Anyway ...just came across this so thought I would put my thoughts down

Thank you so much for being willing to share you experience and story. You, much like many others, are a good person whose life has changed because of pornography. Change is not easy, but doable. I know that you are wanting to change so let me offer a couple of things that are essential: 1) accountability--you will benefit from being accountable to one or more people; 2) get more knowledge--it is important to learn what you are dealing with; 3) develop emotional regulation skills--these will help you deal with stress and other times you feel vulnerable; 4) do regular acts of service to help others--this is very helpful in the recovery process.

As a first-year med school student, I have been able to enjoy many successes in life. Pornography, however, has been my one downfall. Now that I have decided to give it up because I see the potential damage it could do to myself and those close to me, I feel like there is a great mountain in front of me. Any encouragement or advice on the best route to recovery would be greatly appreciated.

There is hope. You can fully recover. There are so many resources out there, like this website, to aid in your recovery process. Another great resource I have found is SA Lifeline. They are dedicated to helping support individuals through their recovery. Visit salifeline.org for more information.
